Indian equities ended lower on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 341.97 or 0.96% at 36,139.98. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 117.50 or 1.07% at 11,083.70 with 38 components posting rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (3.84%), Tata Steel (3.72%), ICICI Bank (3.06%), Coal India (3.04%) and Infosys (2.16%).
On the other hand, Wipro (1.50%), Tata Motors (0.83%), Asian Paints (0.75%), HDFC Bank (0.64%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.42%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.06%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,190 advances against 1,383 declines.
Zee Entertainment Enterprises topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 9,260.61 million. It was followed by H D F C Bank (Rs. 1,402.54 million), Federal Bank (Rs. 1,259.19 million) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 1,225.57 million).
The volume chart was led by Zee Entertainment Enterprises with trades of over 15.55 million shares. It was followed by Federal Bank (12.19 million), Unitech (6.88 million) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.58 million).
