Sensex ends 322 points higher; Nifty settles at 9,897-level

Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 321.86 or 1.02% at 31,770.89 with 22 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 103.15 or 1.05% at 9,897.30 with 35 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (3.57%), Cipla (3.54%), Tata Power Company (3.33%), Hindustan Unilever (3.27%), I T C (3.01%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.69%).

On the other hand, NTPC (1.05%), Asian Paints (0.94%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.46%), Larsen & Toubro (0.43%), Coal India (0.27%), and Infosys (0.27%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,554 advances against 896 declines.

Max Financial Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 5,867.41 million. It was followed by Ashok Leyland (Rs. 672.70 million), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 633.94 million) and Tata Global Beverages (Rs. 609.85 million).

The volume chart was led by Suzlon Energy with trades of over 27.32 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (13.46 million), Max Financial Services (9.70 million) and Sintex Industries (7.71 million).
