Sensex ends 286 points lower; Nifty settles at 10,452

Indian equities ended lower on Friday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 286.71 or 0.84% at 34,010.76 with 24 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 93.20 or 0.88% at 10,452.30 with 38 components registering drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (2.55%), ICICI Bank (2.31%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.08%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.00%), Bharti Airtel (1.94%), and Tata Steel (1.65%).

On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.14%), Infosys (0.96%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.83%), Asian Paints (0.73%), Tata Power Company (0.29%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.18%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 658 advances against 1,896 declines.

Fortis Healthcare topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,015.57 million. It was followed by Punjab National Bank (Rs. 1,472.49 million), Federal Bank (Rs. 1,060.88 million) and Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 760.34 million).

The volume chart was led by Fortis Healthcare with trades of over 14.66 million shares. It was followed by Punjab National Bank (11.72 million), Federal Bank (11.06 million) and G M R Infrastructure (9.47 million).
