Sensex ends 212 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,617

Indian markets ended higher on Thursday snapping earlier losses. Both Sensex and Nifty traded above 2-month high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 212.33 or 0.62% at 34,713.60 with 18 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 47.25 or 0.45% at 10,617.80 with 26 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (2.17%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.09%), ITC (1.61%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.41%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.11%), and Infosys (1.27%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (2.61%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.09%), Wipro (2.00%), State Bank Of India (1.71%), Tata Steel (1.22%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.94%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,006 advances against 1,350 declines.

Yes Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,361.49 million. It was followed by PC Jeweller (Rs. 1,096.06 million), Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 800.34 million) and Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 395.27 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 7.91 million shares. It was followed by PC Jeweller (4.62 million), Indiabulls Real Estate (3.93 million) and Yes Bank (3.87 million).
