Indian markets ended lower on Wednesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 169.45 or 0.45% at 37,121.22 with 18 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 44.55 or 0.39% at 11,234.35 with 35 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Indusind Bank (3.03%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.30%), HDFC Bank (1.58%), HDFC (1.35%) and Adani Ports And Special Economic Zone (1.22%).
On the other hand, Coal India (2.60%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.90%), Tata Steel (1.31%), Hero Motocorp (0.99%) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.78%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 843 advances against 1,625 declines.
Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,042.45 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 465.85 million), R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 452.25 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 395.69 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 9.06 million shares. It was followed by Bajaj Hindusthan Sugar (5.28 million), Spicejet (3.10 million) and Punjab National Bank (1.93 million).
