Indian equities wrapped today's session on a buoyant note supported by capital goods, oil & gas and technology stocks. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 148.15 or 0.53% at 27,957.50 with 18 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 37.95 or 0.45% at 8,458.95 with 26 components registering rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.51%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.42%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.29%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.53%), Larsen & Toubro (1.04%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (0.71%).
On the other hand, State Bank of India (2.38%), Hindalco Industries (1.30%), Sesa Sterlite (0.67%), Wipro (0.66%), Tata Power Company (0.59%), and Tata Steel (0.39%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
The Capital Goods index was at 16,653.92, up by 128.22 points or by 0.78%. The Oil & Gas index was at 9,497.03, up by 56.52 points or by 0.60%. The TECk index was at 6,115.45, up by 36.24 points or by 0.60%.
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 10,401.67, down by 71.11 points or by 0.68%.
Market breadth was negative with 1,125 advances against 1,451 declines.
