Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded above 2-month high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 137.25 or 0.38% at 36,484.33 with 20 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 58.60 or 0.54% at 10,967.30 with 34 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Asian Paints (3.39%), Axis Bank (3.18%), State Bank Of India (2.68%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.04%), Bharti Airtel (1.84%), and ITC (1.76%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.10%), Infosys (1.64%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.03%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.03%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.89%), and H D F C Bank (0.65%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,475 advances against 853 declines.
Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,269.26 million. It was followed by Axis Bank (Rs. 881.34 million), Alkem Laboratories (Rs. 655.24 million) and Yes Bank (Rs. 566.65 million).
The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Yes Bank (3.16 million), IDFC Bank (2.89 million) and NBCC (India) (2.29 million).
