Indian markets ends higher on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 136.81 or 0.36% at 38,024.37 with 16 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 20.70 or 0.18% at 11,470.70 with 27 components posting rise.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (4.64%), Axis Bank (3.86%), State Bank Of India (2.53%), NTPC (1.93%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.69%), and Coal India (1.41%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (4.64%), Cipla (1.99%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.75%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.98%), Larsen & Toubro (0.88%), and H D F C Bank (0.85%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,219 advances against 1,207 declines.
I C I C I Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,124.63 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 790.65 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 643.75 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 586.76 million).
The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (26.44 million), Suzlon Energy (3.54 million) and I C I C I Bank (3.38 million).
