Sensex ends 112 points higher; Nifty settles above 10,500

Indian equities ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded above 1-month high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 112.78 or 0.33% at 34,305.43 with 17 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 47.75 or 0.46% at 10,528.35 with 33 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hero Motocorp (2.02%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.88%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.85%), Bajaj Auto (1.73%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.66%) and Housing Development Finance Corp (1.64%).

On the other hand, Tata Motors (4.96%), Infosys (3.10%), State Bank Of India (0.76%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.55%), Tata Steel (0.49%) and ICICI Bank (0.28%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,194 advances against 1,245 declines.

Reliance Communications topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 165.37 million. It was followed by Axis Bank (Rs. 138.42 million), Delta Corp (Rs. 118.28 million) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (Rs. 100.22 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 7.80 million shares. It was followed by Aplaya Creations (6.68 million), Andrew Yule and Company (0.94 million) and G T L Infrastructure (0.70 million).
