Indian markets remained volatile on Wednesday as weak global cues dampened the trading sentiment. At 12.18 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 15.90 points or 0.06% at 27,973.39 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 3 points or 0.04% at 8,494 with 31 components gaining.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.38%), Bharti Airtel (1.68%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.51%), Hindalco Industries (1.39%), Hindustan Unilever (0.96%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.83%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (2.32%), Infosys (2.27%), G A I L (India) (1.63%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.26%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.90%), and Reliance Industries (0.59%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.83% and 1.32% respectively.
The HC index was at 17,547.79, up by 262.85 points or by 1.52%. The FMCG index was at 7,828.34, up by 54.90 points or by 0.71%. On the other hand, the IT index was at 11,226.83, down by 177.29 points or by 1.55%.
