Asian stock markets closed lower on Friday, with rising banking stocks enabling several indices to post significant weekly gains.
China's benchmark index, Shanghai Composite went up 24.76 points or 0.78 percent to close at 3,196.04. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 308.02 points or 1.35 percent to end at 22,531.09.
Singapore's Straits Times fell 19.49 points or 0.69 percent to end at 2,814.60. South Korea's KOSPI fell 18.17 points or 0.91 percent to end at 1,984.43. Taiwan's TAIEX plunged 194.42 points or 2.12 percent to end at 8,957.76.
On the other hand, Japan's benchmark index, Nikkei 225 rose 30.37 points or 0.18 percent to settle at 17,374.79.
