Asian stock markets closed lower on Friday, as investors fretted over the potential outcome of next week's U.S. presidential election and waited for cues from the U.S. government's October jobs report due out tonight.
Japan's benchmark index, Nikkei 225 declined 229.32 points or 1.34 percent to settle at 16,905.36. China's benchmark index, Shanghai Composite lost 3.62 points or 0.12 percent to close at 3,125.32. Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell 40.89 points or 0.18 percent to end at 22,642.62.
Singapore's Straits Times fell 13.28 points or 0.47 percent to end at 2,788.80. South Korea's KOSPI fell 1.78 points or 0.09 percent to end at 1,982.02.
On the other hand, Taiwan's TAIEX gained 0.88 points or 0.01 percent to end at 9,068.15.
