Sensex, Nifty end flat; Tata Motors; State Bank of India drag

Indian markets ended flat on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. Both Sensex and Nifty traded near 3-month high. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 12.77 points or 0.04% at 35,543.94, 19 components registering drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 4.75 points or 0.04%, at 10,801.85.34 components registering drop.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (2.29%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.22%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.41%), Asian Paints (0.89%), H D F C Bank (0.85%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.80%).

On the other hand, Tata Motors (4.29%), State Bank Of India (1.87%), Coal India (1.78%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.22%), I T C (0.93%), and Tata Power Company (0.80%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 910 advances against 1,459 declines.

Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,114.03 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 540.92 million), Tata Motors (Rs. 402.74 million) and Reliance Industries (Rs. 298.73 million).

The volume chart was led by State Bank Of India with trades of over 2.18 million shares. It was followed by Tata Steel (1.79 million), Hindustan Construction Company (1.69 million) and Tata Motors (1.30 million).
