Sensex gains 170 points; Adani Ports, ITC, Reliance up

Indian equities bounced back on Monday snapping earlier losses. At 10.37 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 170.70 points or 0.55% at 31,227.10 with 19 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 40.55 points or 0.42% at 9,628.60 with 32 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (2.11%), ITC (1.53%), Reliance Industries (1.53%), Bajaj Auto (1.51%), Tata Steel (1.42%), and Tata Consultancy Services (1.11%).

On the other hand, Cipla (1.87%), Coal India (0.92%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.86%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.71%), GAIL (India) (0.65%), and Tata Motors (0.65%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,086 advances against 907 declines.

Yes Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 316.22 million. It was followed by Tata Elxsi (Rs. 232.96 million), Hindustan Unilever (Rs. 197.95 million) and Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 192.28 million).

The volume chart was led by Shilpi Cable Technologies with trades of over 3.44 million shares. It was followed by Amtek Auto (2.98 million), Lanco Infratech (2.45 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (1.76 million).
