Sensex ends flat, Nifty settles below 9,600

Indian markets ended flat on Friday. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 19.33 points or 0.06% at 31,056.40, 19 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 10.00 or 0.10% at 9,588.05 with 25 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (1.57%), Tata Power Company (1.56%), ITC (1.46%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.67%), State Bank Of India (0.63%), and NTPC (0.53%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.78%), Wipro (2.24%), Cipla (2.20%), Infosys (1.24%), Hindustan Unilever (1.08%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.81%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,280 advances against 1,259 declines.

Reliance Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,336.08 million. It was followed by Aurobindo Pharma (Rs. 732.54 million), Spicejet (Rs. 542.69 million) and Castrol India (Rs. 476.98 million).

The volume chart was led by G M R Infrastructure with trades of over 5.24 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (4.37 million), Housing Development and Infrastructure (3.16 million) and GVK Power & Infrastructure (2.31 million).
