Sensex ends 70 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,651

Indian markets ended higher on Thursday snapping earlier losses. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 70.42 or 0.20% at 34,503.49 with 14 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 19.00 or 0.18% at 10,651.20 with 21 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Infosys (2.28%), Bharti Airtel (1.66%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (1.61%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.99%) and Asian Paint (0.97%).

On the other hand, Indusind Bank (2.08%), Wipro (1.53%), ICICI Bank (0.82%), Axis Bank (0.76%) and Hero Motocorp (0.70%)were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,374 advances against 1,339 declines.

Indiabulls Housing Finance topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,814.83 million. It was followed by Infosys (Rs. 1,414.81 million), Aban Offshore (Rs. 1,202.96 million) and Jai Corp (Rs. 498.62 million).

The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 12.09 million shares. It was followed by Urja Global (6.38 million), Sunstar Realty Development (5.74 million) and Subex (5.73 million).
