Sensex ends 610 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,421-level

Indian equities ended higher on Monday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 610.80 or 1.83% at 33,917.94 with 27 components registering rise.  Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 194.55 or 1.90% at 10,421.40 with 44 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (4.68%), NTPC (4.33%), I T C (4.09%), Tata Motors (3.07%), Tata Steel (2.82%), and Hero Motocorp (2.75%).

On the other hand, Coal India (2.26%), and State Bank Of India (0.12%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,264 advances against 1,246 declines.

Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 691.17 million. It was followed by R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 586.65 million), IDBI Bank (Rs. 543.39 million) and Punjab National Bank (Rs. 347.04 million).

The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by IDBI Bank (8.40 million), Reliance Communications (8.07 million) and Unitech (6.79 million).
