Indian equities continued to drop for the fourth day on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 447.60 or 1.38% at 31,922.44 with 28 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 157.50 or 1.56% at 9,964.40 with 50 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (4.70%), Larsen & Toubro (3.49%), Tata Power Company (3.25%), Reliance Industries (2.83%), ICICI Bank (2.77%), and Hero Motocorp (2.59%).
On the other hand, Wipro (1.00%), and Coal India (0.12%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 516 advances against 1,938 declines.
Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 638.86 million. It was followed by I T I (Rs. 636.03 million), Divis Laboratories (Rs. 632.44 million) and Spicejet (Rs. 379.63 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 11.21 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (5.18 million), I T I (4.56 million) and IDFC (3.31 million).
