Sensex ends 424 points lower; Nifty settles at 10,943

Indian markets ended lower on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 424.61 or 1.15% at 36,546.48 with 26 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 125.80 or 1.14% at 10,943.60 with 42 components posting drop.

Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (17.28%), Tata Steel (3.70%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.94%), NTPC (2.94%), Larsen & Toubro (2.92%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (2.64%).

On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.95%), Bharti Airtel (0.85%), H D F C Bank (0.29%), Cipla (0.22%), and Hero Motocorp (0.15%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 851 advances against 1,416 declines.

Puravankara topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,309.64 million. It was followed by Tata Motors (Rs. 1,233.73 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 1,113.80 million) and Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 946.83 million).

The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Power (26.83 million), Puravankara (17.75 million) and Tata Motors (8.15 million).
