Sensex ends 294 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,539

Indian equities ended higher on Monday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 294.71 or 0.87% at 34,300.47 with 22 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 84.80 or 0.81% at 10,539.75 with 36 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (4.22%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (2.51%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.22%), Tata Power Company (2.00%), Hero Motocorp (1.94%), and Reliance Industries (1.87%).

On the other hand, State Bank Of India (2.67%), Infosys (0.72%), ITC (0.53%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.43%), ICICI Bank (0.23%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.15%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,864 advances against 733 declines.

Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 951.24 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 753.90 million), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 732.96 million) and Vedanta (Rs. 450.69 million).

The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (7.33 million), National Aluminium Company (4.87 million) and Firstsource Solutions (4.26 million).
