Indian markets ended lower on Monday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 281.00 or 0.84% at 33,033.56 with 21 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 96.80 or 0.94% at 10,224.95 with 37 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (4.11%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.41%), Coal India (3%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (2.15%) and Larsen & Toubro (1.87%).
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (2.06%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.27%) and Sun Pharma (0.99%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 999 advances against 1,542 declines.
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,214.35 million. It was followed by Spicejet (Rs. 1,081.47 million), Rain Industries (Rs. 626.92 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 586.24 million).
The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 12.09 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (9.78 million), Spicejet (7.25 million) and Sam Leaseco (4.22 million).
