Indian equities ended lower on Wednesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 115.37 or 0.33% at 34,501.27 with 20 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 43.80 or 0.41% at 10,570.55 with 37 components posting drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (2.01%), ICICI Bank (1.86%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.67%) and Dr.Reddy's Laboratories (1.46%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (3.37%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.43%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.88%), Infosys (0.61%) and Bajaj Auto (0.22%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 861 advances against 1,544 declines.
Hathway Cable and Datacom topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,136.19 million. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 769.62 million), Indiabulls Ventures (Rs. 724.68 million) and PC Jeweller (Rs. 492.50 million).
The volume chart was led by Hathway Cable and Datacom with trades of over 35.01 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (9.87 million), D B Realty (2.37 million) and Saint-Gobain Sekurit India (2.33 million).
