Indian equities ended lower on Thursday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 103.61 or 0.34% at 30,029.74 with 21 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 9.70 or 0.10% at 9,342.15.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (2.19%), ITC (1.91%), Tata Steel (1.87%), State Bank Of India (1.55%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.11%), and Bajaj Auto (1.08%).
On the other hand, GAIL (India) (1.18%), Tata Motors (1.14%), Cipla (1.11%), Infosys (1.08%), Wipro (1.04%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.69%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,217 advances against 1,493 declines.
Axis Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,080.31 million. It was followed by Mahindra Satyam (Rs. 679.50 million), Spicejet (Rs. 437.90 million) and Sterlite Industries (India) (Rs. 375.86 million).
The volume chart was led by Visesh Infotecnics with trades of over 10.01 million shares. It was followed by Mahindra Satyam (5.89 million), IDFC Bank (4.95 million) and Sterlite Industries (India) (4.17 million).
