Indian equities are trading on a flat note with positive bias on Wednesday ahead of the May derivatives contract expiry. At 15.09 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 29.04 points or 0.11% at 27,560.45 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 14.55 points or 0.17% at 8,324.80 with 24 components falling.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.74%), Axis Bank (2.41%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (2.18%), Coal India (2.15%), NTPC (1.36%), and Bharti Airtel (1.28%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (5.25%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.74%), Infosys (1.98%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.58%), Vedanta (1.56%), and G A I L (India) (1.47%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
The Bankex index was at 21,303.53, up by 242.03 points or by 1.15%. The Oil & Gas index was at 9,497.95, up by 86.69 points or by 0.92%. On the other hand, the Auto index was at 18,674.53, down by 397.48 points or by 2.08%.
Market breadth was negative with 1,082 advances against 1,343 declines.
