Indian markets continued to decline for the second day on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 806.89 points or 1.96% to settle at 40,363.23 with 29 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 251.45 points or 2.08% to settle at 11,829.40 with 49 components registering drop.
On the other hand, Tata Steel (6.39%), Vedanta (6.36%), Tata Motors (4.95%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.72%), Maruti Suzuki India (4.24%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.29%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 755 advances against 1,518 declines.
The only gainer in the 30-share index was Tata Power Company (1.16%).
H D F C Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 572.37 million. It was followed by Essar Steel (Rs. 333.52 million), Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 271.54 million) and Infosys (Rs. 248.05 million).
The volume chart was led by Essar Steel with trades of over 6.44 million shares. It was followed by HDFC FMP - 3360 D - March 2014 (1) - Series 30 - Regular Plan - Quarterly Dividend (5.00 million), ICICI Prudential FMP - Series 82 - 1136 Days - Plan P - Regular Plan - Growth (4.58 million) and Kotak FMP Series 127 - Regular Plan - Dividend (3.00 million).
