Indian equities continued to gain for the second day on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 9.37 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 126.14 points or 0.33% at 38,013.70 with 17 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 27.80 points or 0.24% at 11,477.80 with 29 components gaining.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (3.47%), Cipla (3.24%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.65%), Infosys (1.36%), Tata Motors (1.12%), and Axis Bank (1.10%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.04%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.70%), NTPC (0.63%), HDFC Bank (0.61%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.59%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 959 advances against 456 declines.
Lupin topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 119.75 million. It was followed by Cipla (Rs. 119.43 million), Reliance Communications (Rs. 115.10 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 112.52 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 5.88 million shares. It was followed by Vakrangee (1.48 million), Reliance Naval and Engineering (0.93 million) and Jaiprakash Associates (0.84 million).
