Indian markets continued to decline for the third day on Monday amid volatility. Energy stocks led the decline while metal, pharma and banking stocks were in green zone.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index dropped 0.18% and 0.57% respectively.
At 12.48 p.m., the Sensex was trading down 24.64 points or 0.05% at 48,853.90 with 11 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 8.80 points or 0.06% at 14,380.70 with 29 components gaining.
Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed fall of 41.79 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (31.75 points), ITC (23.66 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (6.58 points) and State Bank Of India (3.92 points).
However, HDFC Bank contributed rise of 64.48 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (36.7 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (30.39 points), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (26.94 points) and ICICI Bank (11.69 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (3.24%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.36%), Bajaj Finserv (1.86%), HDFC Bank (1.67%), and Larsen & Toubro (1.50%).
On the other hand, Reliance Industries (4.28%), Asian Paints (2.76%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.94%), HCL Technologies (1.71%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.34%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 964 advances against 1,829 declines.
