Indian markets ended marginally higher amid volatility on Friday. On sectoral front, metal stocks fell the most followed by auto, pharma and bank stocks. Broader markets underperformed. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 1.14% and 1.18% respectively.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 41.75 points or 0.09% at 48,732.55 with 24 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 18.70 points or 0.13% at 14,677.80 with 43 components posting drop.
Tata Motors contributed fall of 66.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (38.29 points), State Bank Of India (36.9 points), HDFC Bank (33.93 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (31.27 points).
However, Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of 53.96 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (50.85 points), Hindustan Unilever (31.56 points), ICICI Bank (15.03 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Asian Paints (8.51%), ITC (4.45%), Nestle ( 2.78%), Larsen & Toubro (2.21%), Hindustan Unilever (2.01%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.33%), and Reliance Industries (1.22%).
On the other hand, Indusind Bank (2.82%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.45%), State Bank Of India (2%), Dr Reddy's, NTPC (1.81%), ONGC (1.78%) and Sun Pharma (1.64%) were the major losers in the Sensex pack.
Market breadth was negative with 1,401 advances against 1,689 declines.
