Indian equities dropped on Thursday erasing earlier gains. At 9.34 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 172.75 points or 0.46% at 37,679.25 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 33.85 points or 0.30% at 11,401.25 with 34 components falling.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.86%), Reliance Industries (1.14%), Wipro (1.07%), ICICI Bank (0.98%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.92%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.82%).
On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.91%), Infosys (0.87%), Bharti Airtel (0.85%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.75%), and Asian Paints (0.67%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 668 advances against 730 declines.
Eicher Motors topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 222.51 million. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 200.98 million), UltraTech Cement (Rs. 129.26 million) and R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 121.73 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 3.56 million shares. It was followed by Hindustan Organic Chemicals (1.83 million), Vakrangee (1.08 million) and Spicejet (0.92 million).
