Indian equities ended flat on Wednesday. At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 13.89 points or 0.04% at 31,283.64, 17 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 19.90 or 0.21% at 9,633.60 with 32 components registering drop.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (2.52%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.80%), Wipro (0.73%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.71%), HDFC Bank (0.70%), and NTPC (0.69%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (2.11%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.10%), GAIL (India) (1.97%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.58%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.45%), and Coal India (1.34%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,193 advances against 1,300 declines.
Larsen & Toubro topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 42,027.38 million. It was followed by Spicejet (Rs. 849.16 million), Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 791.47 million) and Fortis Healthcare (Rs. 603.63 million).
The volume chart was led by Larsen & Toubro with trades of over 23.96 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (9.73 million), Spicejet (6.45 million) and Reliance Communications (4.37 million).
