Sensex gains over 100 points; Nifty above 10,600

Indian equities continued to gain for the second day on Wednesday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading above 1-month high. At 9.35 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 132.62 points or 0.38% at 35,277.11 with 22 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 51.50 points or 0.49% at 10,634.00 with 39 components gaining.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Asian Paints (3.95%), Tata Steel (2.66%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.62%), Hindustan Unilever (1.61%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.31%), and Hero Motocorp (1.14%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.36%), Infosys (1.64%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.48%), Wipro (0.81%), Axis Bank (0.42%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.08%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 904 advances against 440 declines.

State Bank Of India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 326.30 million. It was followed by Ashok Leyland (Rs. 267.11 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 210.79 million) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (Rs. 163.78 million).

The volume chart was led by Ashok Leyland with trades of over 2.45 million shares. It was followed by State Bank Of India (1.16 million), Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company (1.06 million) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.64 million).
