Indian equities ended higher on Friday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 278.18 or 0.90% at 31,028.21 with 20 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 85.35 or 0.90% at 9,595.10 with 33 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (5.46%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.49%), I T C (2.99%), Reliance Industries (2.69%), Asian Paints (2.02%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.82%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.93%), Cipla (2.48%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.55%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.64%), State Bank Of India (0.53%), and Bajaj Auto (0.41%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 1,728 advances against 811 declines.
Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 894.61 million. It was followed by Hero Motocorp (Rs. 849.87 million), I T C (Rs. 809.40 million) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (Rs. 745.36 million).
The volume chart was led by Sintex Industries with trades of over 16.82 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (6.52 million), Suzlon Energy (5.49 million) and Ashok Leyland (4.41 million).
