Sensex ends 81 points higher; HUL, HDFC jump 3% each

Indian equities ended higher on Monday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 81.07 or 0.26% at 31,109.28 with 15 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 9.80 or 0.10% at 9,604.90 with 22 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Hindustan Unilever (3.54%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.29%), Cipla (2.55%), ITC (2.38%), Hero Motocorp (1.63%), and Reliance Industries (1.55%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (11.56%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (5.38%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.22%), ICICI Bank (2.16%), State Bank Of India (1.40%), and Infosys (1.09%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 853 advances against 1,711 declines.

Larsen & Toubro topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,052.24 million. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 479.45 million), PC Jeweller (Rs. 465.39 million) and Reliance Infrastructure (Rs. 437.20 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 18.62 million shares. It was followed by Adani Power (2.86 million), Reliance Power (2.58 million) and Spicejet (2.21 million).
