Sensex ends 232 points lower; Nifty settles at 10,516

Indian markets continued to drop for the fourth day on Monday. The broad based Nifty traded below 1-month low. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 232.17 or 0.67% at 34,616.13 with 24 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 79.70 or 0.75% at 10,516.70 with 40 components posting drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.50%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (4.23%), Tata Motors (2.85%), Cipla (2.72%), Hero Motocorp (2.58%), and Tata Steel (2.47%).

On the other hand, State Bank Of India (2.47%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.59%), Coal India (1.26%), ICICI Bank (1.13%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.43%), and Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.14%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 629 advances against 1,789 declines.

Future Lifestyle Fashions topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 7,969.54 million. It was followed by IndoStar Capital Finance (Rs. 1,573.61 million), Ashok Leyland (Rs. 1,083.09 million) and U P L (Rs. 684.05 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 35.00 million shares. It was followed by Future Lifestyle Fashions (19.20 million), Ashok Leyland (8.06 million) and IDBI Bank (3.71 million).
