Indian equities settled sharply higher tracking mixed global cues on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 169.57 or 0.65% at 26,128.20 with 20 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 58.90 or 0.75% at 7,942.70 with 34 components registering rise.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Hindalco Industries (3.26%), State Bank Of India (2.80%), Larsen & Toubro (2.23%), I C I C I Bank (1.97%), Vedanta (1.72%), and Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.50%).
On the other hand, Tata Motors (1.32%), Reliance Industries (0.88%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.68%), Bajaj Auto (0.55%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (0.36%), and Tata Power Company (0.15%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,362 advances against 1,237 declines.
