Sensex ends 141 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,397

Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 141.27 or 0.42% at 33,844.86 with 14 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 37.05 or 0.36% at 10,397.45 with 21 components posting rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Tata Consultancy Services (3.33%), I T C (2.00%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.79%), State Bank Of India (1.28%), Infosys (1.23%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.09%).

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (6.19%), Tata Steel (1.57%), Tata Motors (1.23%), Bajaj Auto (0.97%), NTPC (0.92%), and Cipla (0.84%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,026 advances against 1,459 declines.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,208.70 million. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (Rs. 648.51 million), Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 625.90 million) and State Bank Of India (Rs. 564.70 million).

The volume chart was led by Punjab National Bank with trades of over 4.66 million shares. It was followed by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.21 million), Schneider Electric Infrastructure (2.90 million) and Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.41 million).
