Indian markets ended lower on Thursday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 139.34 or 0.39% at 35,599.82 with 20 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 48.65 or 0.45% at 10,808.05 with 33 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were ICICI Bank (2.11%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.75%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.75%), State Bank Of India (1.72%) and Axis Bank (1.52%).
On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.57%), Yes Bank (1.17%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.73%) and Reliance Industries (0.54%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 1,121 advances against 1,270 declines.
Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 561.59 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 548.10 million), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 385.60 million) and Lupin (Rs. 351.70 million).
The volume chart was led by Vakrangee with trades of over 7.29 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (5.64 million), Reliance Communications (4.75 million) and Kwality (4.37 million).
