Indian equities ended lower on Monday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 252.88 or 0.76% at 32,923.12 with 23 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty declined by 100.90 or 0.99% at 10,094.25.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Tata Steel (4.24%), Bharti Airtel (4.16%), Coal India (2.51%), Bajaj Auto (2.34%), Infosys (2.16%), and Asian Paints (2.04%).
On the other hand, Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.12%), NTPC (1.03%), Larsen & Toubro (0.95%), Maruti Suzuki India (0.80%), Hindustan Unilever (0.69%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.12%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 559 advances against 1,971 declines.
Graphite India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 719.72 million. It was followed by R*Shares Liquid BeES (Rs. 431.20 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 242.79 million) and PC Jeweller (Rs. 228.64 million).
The volume chart was led by Southern Ispat and Energy with trades of over 55.24 million shares. It was followed by Himachal Futuristic Communications (2.16 million), Kotak FMP Series 84 - Growth (2.00 million) and Spicejet (1.50 million).
