'Third industrial revolution to bring new wave of entrepreneurial opportunities'

The world is on the cup of experiencing the 'third industrial revolution' with proliferation of the internet and focus on renewable energy, the most prominent of mega trends. Traditional jobs will lose both relevance and interest amongst the youth, instead would pave the way for innovative and new career prospects and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The 'third industrial revolution' would bring with it great career opportunities for those would possess strong value system and a flexible mindset. It would also encourage the youth to embrace entrepreneurship as the virtual world of internet and shift of generation of energy from fossil fuels such as oil and coal to renewable energy is bound to make a dent on poverty, hunger and unemployment.

, Mentor, FYL and Executive Vice Chairman, Fortis Healthcare, cautioned students that in future when they are ready to enter the corporate world, the professional scenario would be transformed. He advised them to choose education and career keeping the emerging scenario in mind and asked them to focus on building their character rather than their CVs to stay relevant in the fast evolving business environment.

In his video message Jeremy Rifkin, President, Foundation on Economic Trends, USA and Chief Propagator, third industrial revolution, said that the five pillars of the Third Industrial Revolution will create thousands of businesses and millions of jobs, and usher in a fundamental reordering of human relationships, from hierarchical to lateral power, that will impact the way we conduct business, govern society, educate our children, and engage in civic life.

The five pillars of the third industrial revolution are shifting to renewable energy; transforming the building stock of every continent into green micro-power plants to collect renewable energies on-site; deploying hydrogen and other storage technologies in every building and throughout the infrastructure to store intermittent energies; using Internet technology to transform the power grid of every continent into an energy internet that acts just like the Internet; and transitioning the transport fleet to electric plug-in and fuel cell vehicles that can buy and sell green electricity on a smart, continental, interactive power grid.

Shaifalika Panda, Co-chairperson, FYL and Chief Executive Officer, Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF), said that corporates have now realized that sustainability and social responsibility have to be integrated in the main business strategy.

Prasanto Kumar Roy, Adviser, Cyber Media, said that the future job market would be very different and one must begin thinking about career opportunities keeping in mind the new and upcoming technologies and diverse requirements of emerging businesses.

Pratibha Jolly, Principal, Miranda House, University of Delhi, said that the teaching classrooms of yesterday have been replaced by learning studios and informal methods of interaction. There is a constant need to reinvent and reboot oneself to keep pace with the fast growing and evolving corporate sector.
