Senvion SE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Suzlon, the world's fifth largest manufacturer of wind turbines erected the prototype of the Senvion 6.2M152 with the largest rotor diameter in te product range on Dec. 3, 2014.
The project is a first for the company in two respects blades of this size have never been developed, built, transported and assembled and such a large rotor star has never been pulled and assembled. With a diameter of 152 metres, the swept area is larger than three football pitches.
Tulsi R. Tanti, chairman of the Suzlon group and of the Senvion board said, ''The prototype of Senvion 6.2 M152 is based on the highly reliable 6.2M126 WTG and takes us one more step towards reducing cost of energy with highest reliability and quality. The large rotor diameter when compared to erstwhile Senvion 6.2M126 (126 metres) will result in higher energy yields by upto 20% at wind speeds of 9.5 m/s. With this turbine, we will further capitalise our strong position in the offshore wind-energy market.
Shares of the company declined Rs 0.63, or 4.27%, to settle at Rs 14.13. The total volume of shares traded was 3,898,032 at the BSE (Friday).
