Sensex rises over 150 points, Nifty above 10,300

Indian equities continued to rise for the third day on Monday. At 9.42 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 169.68 points or 0.51% at 33,419.98 with 23 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 45.65 points or 0.44% at 10,311.30 with 39 components gaining.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (1.80%), Axis Bank (1.57%), State Bank Of India (1.45%), ITC (1.45%), Wipro (1.39%), and Maruti Suzuki India (1.20%).

On the other hand, Bajaj Auto (0.94%), Hindustan Unilever (0.87%), Tata Power Company (0.44%), Infosys (0.30%), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.27%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,234 advances against 494 declines.

Larsen & Toubro topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,963.19 million. It was followed by NBCC (India) (Rs. 1,939.09 million), Britannia Industries (Rs. 737.56 million) and Indraprastha Gas (Rs. 374.90 million).

The volume chart was led by Unitech with trades of over 10.53 million shares. It was followed by NBCC (India) (7.46 million), Electrosteel Steels (4.43 million) and SREI Infrastructure Finance (2.97 million).
