Indian equities bounced back on Tuesday snapping earlier losses. At 9.46 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 167.93 points or 0.45% at 37,812.83 with 21 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 50.50 points or 0.44% at 11,406.25 with 35 components gaining.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (1.98%), Tata Steel (1.34%), ITC (1.29%), ICICI Bank (1.25%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.02%), and State Bank Of India (0.98%).
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (0.50%), Larsen & Toubro (0.38%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.32%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.21%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.18%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.16%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was positive with 984 advances against 542 declines.
Tata Steel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 198.54 million. It was followed by Vakrangee (Rs. 104.69 million), Reliance Communications (Rs. 100.76 million) and Adani Enterprises (Rs. 94.57 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 4.75 million shares. It was followed by Vakrangee (2.34 million), Ruchi Soya Industries (0.68 million) and Kwality (0.56 million).
