Indian equities ended lower on Tuesday. Both Sensex and Nifty traded below 6-month low. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 287.15 or 0.84% at 33,847.23 with 22 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 98.45 or 0.96% at 10,146.80 with 38 components posting drop.
Biggest losers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (5.07%), Asian Paints (4.86%), Wipro (3.93%), Tata Consultancy Services (3.05%), Infosys (3.01%), and State Bank Of India (1.77%).
On the other hand, Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.79%), Bajaj Auto (1.15%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.01%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.74%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.67%), and Coal India (0.63%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 741 advances against 1,608 declines.
Indiabulls Housing Finance topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,290.33 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 531.03 million), Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 464.53 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 310.16 million).
The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 9.21 million shares. It was followed by Adani Power (3.26 million), Yes Bank (2.49 million) and South Indian Bank , The (2.39 million).
