Sensex ends 222 points higher; Nifty settles at 11,450-level

Indian markets ended higher on Wednesday snapping earlier losses.Both Sensex and Nifty traded at a new life time high. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 221.76 or 0.59% at 37,887.56 with 19 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 60.55 or 0.53% at 11,450.00 with 28 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.87%), Reliance Industries (2.85%), ICICI Bank (1.63%), State Bank Of India (1.53%), Hindustan Unilever (1.33%), and Tata Motors (1.25%).

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.99%), Tata Power Company (1.07%), Bajaj Auto (0.96%), NTPC (0.57%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.55%), and Infosys (0.47%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,199 advances against 1,240 declines.

Strides Shasun topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 606.98 million. It was followed by Reliance Industries (Rs. 581.48 million), H E G (Rs. 549.61 million) and HDFC Asset Management Company (Rs. 400.86 million).

The volume chart was led by Birla Power Solutions with trades of over 12.09 million shares. It was followed by Adani Power (8.48 million), Spicejet (4.37 million) and Sam Leaseco (4.22 million).
