Indian markets ended lower on Monday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 219.25 or 0.61% at 35,470.35 with 26 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 59.40 or 0.55% at 10,762.45 with 39 components registering drop.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Tata Motors (5.94%), ICICI Bank (3.79%), Coal India (2.70%), Larsen & Toubro (2.05%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.92%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.86%).
On the other hand, Infosys (2.07%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.87%), HDFC Bank (0.58%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.48%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.40%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 773 advances against 1,554 declines.
Titan Company topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 408.39 million. It was followed by Tata Motors (Rs. 398.32 million), Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 390.70 million) and P N B Housing Finance (Rs. 353.78 million).
The volume chart was led by Vakrangee with trades of over 4.78 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (4.16 million), Jaiprakash Associates (3.39 million) and IDBI Bank (3.16 million).
