Sensex ends 216 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,333-level

Indian markets ended higher on Friday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 216.27 or 0.65% at 33,462.97 with 19 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 81.15 or 0.79% at 10,333.25 with 31 components registering rise.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Mahindra & Mahindra (3.56%), Coal India (3.02%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.52%), HDFC Bank (1.95%), Tata Steel (1.75%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.75%).

On the other hand, Cipla (2.53%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.87%), Asian Paints (0.54%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.42%), State Bank Of India (0.41%), and Bharti Airtel (0.38%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,498 advances against 939 declines.

Kotak Mahindra Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 7,457.47 million. It was followed by Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company (Rs. 801.66 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 381.14 million) and Prism Cement (Rs. 291.80 million).

The volume chart was led by Kotak Mahindra Bank with trades of over 7.25 million shares. It was followed by Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company (3.01 million), Prism Cement (2.56 million) and H C L Infosystems (2.45 million).
