Sensex ends 194 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,252

Indian markets ended higher on Thursday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 193.66 or 0.59% at 33,246.70 with 25 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 59.15 or 0.58% at 10,252.10 with 36 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (2.34%), Cipla (2.22%), ITC (1.87%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.36%), Bharti Airtel (1.34%), and Axis Bank (1.24%).

On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (2.62%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.49%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (0.37%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.01%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,001 advances against 1,416 declines.

Maruti Suzuki India topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 662.10 million. It was followed by Power Grid Corporation Of India (Rs. 282.03 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 215.57 million) and I C I C I Bank (Rs. 166.89 million).

The volume chart was led by 3i Infotech with trades of over 8.71 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (4.76 million), Reliance Communications (3.46 million) and Mercator (2.93 million).
