Sensex ends 118 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,326

Indian equities ended higher on Tuesday. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 118.45 or 0.36% at 33,478.35 with 21 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 28.15 or 0.27% at 10,326.90 with 27 components registering rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (4.99%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.18%), Cipla (2.31%), Bharti Airtel (2.13%), NTPC (1.61%), and Bajaj Auto (1.58%).

On the other hand, Coal India (1.51%), ITC (1.08%), Power Grid Corporation Of India (1.03%), Tata Consultancy Services (1.02%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.77%), and State Bank Of India (0.69%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,363 advances against 1,131 declines.

Kajaria Ceramics topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 3,826.59 million. It was followed by HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company (Rs. 2,446.45 million), L&T Finance Holdings (Rs. 2,209.80 million) and Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 558.09 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 16.44 million shares. It was followed by L&T Finance Holdings (12.34 million), HDFC Standard Life Insurance Company (6.35 million) and Kajaria Ceramics (5.31 million).
