Sensex edges higher, up over 100 points; Nifty trades above 10,350

Indian markets continued to rally for the fifth day on Wednesday. At 9.32 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 124.70 points or 0.37% at 33,603.05 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 26.55 points or 0.26% at 10,353.45 with 39 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.78%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.54%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.13%), Bajaj Auto (1.09%), Asian Paints (0.82%), and Coal India (0.73%).

On the other hand, Tata Power Company (1.67%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.46%), Axis Bank (0.65%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.60%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.29%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,030 advances against 468 declines.

Pidilite Industries topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 319.80 million. It was followed by Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 121.71 million), Tata Motors (Rs. 101.80 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 86.90 million).

The volume chart was led by Reliance Communications with trades of over 2.50 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (2.14 million), Confidence Petroleum India (1.40 million) and Sri Adhikari Brothers Television Network (0.88 million).
