The work on the Rs 40 billion Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) SEZ, which is designed to change the landscape of Uran-Dronagiri stretch, is on the right course and the infrastructure of the project is expected to be completed in two years at a cost of Rs 5 billion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi did the ground breaking ceremony for the project a year ago under Make in India project.
An RTI application filed by leading developer Prajapati Constructions has revealed that the SEZ project received all necessary approvals, including the environment clearance, and land filling is underway along with work on the boundary wall.
The detailed project report was prepared by Larsen & Tubro Infra Engineering and approved by the JNPT Board in May this year. The work on the overall infrastructure is expected to start in four months. The JNPT-SEZ will be opened up for varied sectors such as engineering, apparel and textiles, free trade warehousing zone, electronics and hardware, multi services and non-conventional energy.
The project will also generate direct and indirect employment to the project affected people, the response from JNPT said.
Rajesh Prajapati, MD of Prajapati Constructions said, ''We filed the RTI petition in view of apprehensions in certain quarters about the progress of the SEZ project. We are happy that the fears are allayed and that the project will be ready for use in two years.''
''The JNPT-SEZ will bring economic boom to the area and we expect to witness a sea-change in the Uran Dronagiri Region,'' he said.
The ambitious SEZ is being developed through JNPT-SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) under the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) mode.
The port connectivity highway project with a cost of about Rs 19.27 billion is to be completed by December 2017.
